Real Ale Festival Duclaw brewing company

Enjoy unlimited samples of cask-conditioned ales from 18 (and counting) renowned craft breweries, an amazing free food buffet and live music from the band Acoustically Sound! All this can be yours for the low low price of $55 per person (or $65 for extended session VIP tickets), with a portion of the proceeds to benefit The Cool Kids Campaign.

Must be 21 years of age or older to attend. It all happens Saturday September 8th, RAIN OR SHINE (no refunds, but hey, let's be honest: with unlimited beer samples, free food and live music, unless the Mayan apocalypse starts early, there is NO reason to miss this!).

F.A.Q.

You've got questions, we've got answers.Get all of the pertinent (and superfluous) info here.

  • Why are the tasting cups plastic?

Safety first! We know that tasting real ale out of anything other than glass is sacrilege, but plastic doesn't shatter and end up embedded in your foot when you drop it.

  • What breweries will be there?
    • Stillwater Artisanal
    • Heavy Seas
    • Oliver's
    • Fordham
    • Harpoon
    • Old Dominion
    • Troegs
    • Yards
    • Flying Dog
    • Stone
    • Stoudts
    • Red Brick
    • Pub Dog
    • Brewer's Alley
    • Evolution
    • Frankiln's
    • Brewer's Art
    • and a little upstart out of Northeastern Maryland called
      DuClaw Brewing Company.
  • Will there be entertainment?

Yep! Real Ale Festival house band, Acoustically Sound will be will be playing live.

  • How can breweries run out of beer?

Each brewery is only bringing two casks of beer, when they're gone, they're gone.

  • Where can I get driving directions?
  • Can I bring my own food and drink?

Really? The food is free, better than yours, and you've already paid for the beer, so, no, you may not.

  • Can I leave the event and re-enter after doing so?

Yes. We will be tagging fest-goers with RF ear-tags when you enter the event so that we can keep track of you. OR there will be a stamp or wristband of some kind.

  • Can I bring my pet?

Sorry, humans only UNLESS your dog is “on the job”: Service animals are permitted.

  • Will the festival be canceled if it rains?

Bring your slicker, your umbrella and your rubbers, err, galoshes cause rain or shine, the fest must go on.

  • Can I leave my car overnight?

At your own discretion. DuClaw Brewing Company will not be responsible for lost or damaged vehicles. We encourage attendees, when possible, to carpool, use our bus service (see below) or take public transit.

$25 (VIP or IP) gets you round trip bus service to and from the event from our restaurants at the Bowie Town Center and Arundel Mills Mall, AND from JD's Smokehouse in Baltimore. The VIP buses will depart from Bowie at PRECISELY 9:15 am and Arundel Mills at PRECISELY 10 AM am, and JD's at 10am the morning of the event. The buses for guests holding 12noon to 4pm festival tickets will depart from Bowie at PRECISELY 10:15am, Arundel Mills at PRECISELY 11am, and JD's at 11am the morning of the event. Please be at the bus pick-up location 15 minutes before departure as we're taking this PRECISELY thing very seriously. Have you seen the movie Open Water? That's what happens when you miss your scheduled departure time. Okay, you won't get eaten by sharks, but you will miss out on all of the fun. All buses depart Bel Air for the return trips shortly after the conclusion of the festival.

  • Can I volunteer at the Real Ale Fest?

No. Because of liability issues only professional brewers and DuClaw Brewing Company staff may work the event.

  • Can I get paid to work at the Real Ale Fest?

If we won't let volunteers work for free, what chance do you think you have of getting paid to do it? Buy a ticket and start drinking already.

  • How can I be a participating brewery next year?

Glad you asked! Contact Elizabeth Hanfman at ehanfman@duclaw.com and tell her that you would like a vendor packet for next year's festival.

  • What is a “Firkin”?

A firkin is actually the name of an eleven-gallon keg that holds cask-conditioned ale (real ale).

  • What is “Real Ale”?

“Real Ale” is served unfiltered, whereas the yeast in conventionally served ale has been filtered out to give it a “clear” appearance. Real ale is served at “cellar” temperature (50-55°F), unlike conventional ale, which is served cooler. Finally, real ale is lightly carbonated so it almost appears "flat" compared to conventional ale.

  • Why should we attend this event?

If all of the Breweries, free food, live music, etc weren't enough, you'll also be helping a great cause. A portion of the proceeds from the even will be donated to The Cool Kids Campaign, an organization that provides kids with cancer and their families while they battle through the challenges of recovery.
